Introduction to Berkeley Mills

When we began Berkeley Mills in 1988, we had disparate backgrounds and experiences in woodworking, but we shared a common goal: to make furniture of such enduring design and quality that it transforms one's surroundings by adding sophistication, serenity, beauty and comfort to the environment.

We admired the aesthetic of artists such as Morris, Stickley, Greene and Wright ¡ª and appreciated its affinity with classic Asian designs. So we decided that Berkeley Mills would create a new fusion of East and West that balances purity of line with functional purpose.

Making furniture is a very personal endeavor.

People form relationships with our furniture, because it looks good, feels good, works well and generally exceeds their expectations. We began with good designers, who learned to listen to our customers. From the beginning, our customers have been our partners, part of our company's culture. In building our furniture, we are not promoting an image, but participating in our customers' lifestyles. And, as they collaborate with our designers and craftsmen, our customers often inspire us.

Today, we work in a spacious showroom and workshop, where we welcome visitors seven days a week. But our goal ¡ª and our quest for perfection ¡ª remains the same. We value our customers, our employees, and the integrity of our work. We are committed to the responsible use of scarce resources, including the use of FSC-certified woods. We seek constant improvement, and we welcome change as a challenge to do better. We strive to exceed our customers' expectations, in design, craftsmanship and service.
